Assessment, recording, reporting

Aims:

 

We aim to keep a assess pupils regularly and keep a record of the total development of each child.  Through selective record keeping we monitor the progress of each child via spoken and written language, reading, mathematics, science and technology, humanities, aesthetic development and social, personal, spiritual and moral development.  Discreet records are kept relating to any personal incidents in a child's life that may affect his/her school work and behaviour.

 

 

Assessments:

 

a)      are made by teachers - during lessons (listening to, observing and talking with pupils); by the marking of pupils’ work; through formal testing;

 

b)      are made by support staff during lessons and then passed to the teacher in an agreed format;

 

c)      by pupils themselves and by their peers;

 

d)      are maintained and held by the class teacher, to be passed onto the next teacher where relevant.

 

e)      Assessment for Learning is the key focus for all assessment processes.

 

 

Records:

 

Records on pupil achievement are completed:

 

a)      regularly by each class teacher following discrete lessons or units or work;

 

b)      termly for numeracy and literacy for KS2 pupils (APP grids / levels of achievement);

 

c)      In July for end of KS1 (Yr 2) and KS2 (YR 6) children and submitted to the Local Authority;

 

d)      In October (Baseline assessments) and July for Reception pupils and submitted to the LA; 

 

e)      For Reading, Writing & Numeracy and stored on Year Group record sheets on the central computer system (under ‘Assessments & Targets’)

 

These records are stored as follows:

 

a)      bi-annual reports, communications with parents etc. – in individual pupil files in cohort black boxes in the staff room;

 

b)      records of SATs levels achieved by the end of KS1 and KS2 pupils in SATs Data file;

 

c)      baseline assessments in the SATs Data file;

 

d)      NFER reading test results in the SATs data file and in the children's files.

 

 

Work samples:

 

a)      assessed and moderated samples of children's work are kept to demonstrate examples of levelling

 

b)      assessed samples of some children's work are kept in the Subject Portfolios.

 

 

Reporting to parents:

 

a)      As in accordance with DCSF regulations, the staff will report to the parents on their child's work at least annually.

b)      The report will be in the form of both a verbal one (as on Open Evenings) and 2 written accounts, in February and July.

c)      The written reports will be issued to all parents or legal guardians.

d)      SATs results will be issued on separate sheets to KS1 and KS2 pupils where appropriate.

e)      Reviews of SEN children will be held termly or when mutually agreed between the SENCO and parents.  In these cases, IEPs will be discussed and future targets agreed.  As regards statemented children, an annual review will take place between outside agencies, parents/legal guardians and the school as specified in the revised SEN Code of Practice.

f)        We aim to keep parents fully informed about the progress of their child/ren with constructive oral and written comments.  Teachers will meet, by arrangement, with parents at other times apart from Open Evenings if either party requests it.
