Eastcombe Primary School : 'nurturing a firm foundation for adults of the future'

Eastcombe Primary school is a small, rural school of 73 pupils, situated in the Cotswold Hills.

Pupils come from the village of Eastcombe and also from Bussage, Chalford Hill, France Lynch and Brimscombe.    When pupils leave at 11, they move predominantly to Thomas Keble Secondary School which is also in Eastcombe; some pupils take the entrance test and go to Stroud High School, Marling or Pates Grammar School.

  We feel that we have much to offer our pupils not only academically but also in preparing them physically and socially for the future.

We are a 'Healthy School' and also have the sports 'Active Mark' , the full International Award and the national 'Sing Up' award.

   Each year, KS2 pupils take part in the Cheltenham Festival of performing arts - singing and speaking as soloists and in groups- while Yr 5 & 6 pupils go away for an outdoor & adventurous residential week each February.

  We have themed activity weeks, when the whole school comes together in mixed age groups.  We join other schools in sporting competition (tag rugby, athletics, football, cross country running) and make the most of the beautiful countryside around us by getting out and about whenever we can.

We aim to plan and deliver an appropriate curriculum for a small rural school.  This is founded upon the principle of meeting the progressive needs of all the children at the school and delivering the programmes of study for each subject contained in the National Curriculum.  We aim:

   To foster awareness of the arts, music, science, technology and literature;

   To value the individual;

   To develop an understanding of the interdependence between people & their environment;

   To encourage spiritual & moral development and and understanding of other faiths, cultures & societies, as well as our own;

   To support self-evaluation by both staff & pupils;

   To provide the resources required to teach the school curriculum and equal opportunities for all pupils to participate in it.

   To develop a partnership with parents and the community that benefits the school.
